an introductory day on mandalas

pauline wills

Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning both circle (the visible world outside of us) and centre (the visible world deep inside our minds and bodies). A mandala represents a sacred space and it also tells a story, the story of a journey that we can follow from our everyday world to our serene inner centre, leading us to a deeper understanding of the universe and of our self. When we draw a mandala we can create an image of our inner selves, draw an image of a perfect world and aspire to its expression of harmony. In creating a mandala we open ourselves to all possibilities that exist inside and outside of us, and we can listen to the dreams of our heart, mind and soul and give them shape and colour inside the circle.

During this fascinating day you will explore some of the man made mandalas and those found in nature. You will explore colour and its attributes. You will then have an opportunity to create your own mandala and learn how to interpret a mandala through the colours and patterns used in its creation.

Admission £50 (concessions £30)
