On this fascinating workshop specialist tutor Barbara Meicklejohn-Free will take you on a journey of self-discovery using the wonderful power of drums.

The drum is one of the most ancient instruments and has been used by shamans, healers and medicine people in virtually every culture for thousands of years. It is just as effective in the 21st century as it was in years gone by as an aid to healing, meditation and psychic awareness.

This workshop will include

* The history of drumming and the different techniques used

* Introduction to the rhythm and beat of the shamanic drum

* 'Smudging'(using burning sage) and its use in creating a sacred space

* Working with the drum for healing and meditation

* Group activity - concentrating on the rhythm of the drum to lead us on a journey of discovery.

But above all this workshop is about experience-and the magic of the healing drum has to be experienced to be understood.

Drums are provided, but bring your own if you have one.

This workshop is recommended for newcomers to the use of the drum, as well as existing practitioners. It is also suitable for people who attended Barbara's previous workshop at the Centre, as it includes new content.

Barbara has a close working relationship with teachers from various Native American tribes and spends part of each year working on different reservations. She was taught by Red Bird from the Cochiti Pueblo and travels internationally teaching the spirit of the drum. www.spiritvisions.co.uk
